Catchment Care volunteers and Fonterra staff from our Clandeboyde site have been busy planting over 2,350 plants in Ashburton, in South Canterbury, on the Greenstreets/Ashburton Forks Waterway Project.
The project – a partnership between Environment Canterbury, Greenstreet Irrigation Association, landowners and Catchment Care – aims to improve waterways around farming areas protect water quality and habitat for native birds and plants.
Donna Woodley, a resource care officer at Environment Canterbury was very impressed with the Catchment Care team.
“The volunteers worked very well and they got through a lot in the time they were with us. Their attitudes were fantastic even when the going wasn’t that easy.
“The landowners were thrilled with the efforts,” says Donna.
In addition to the 2,350 plants, the team also protected 500 plants.
